このファイルは、あなたが日本以外に（多分関東地方の意味）に住んでい
るなら、あまり有用ではないかも知れません。
もし、偶然あなたが東京に長期滞在するような事が起るならこのファイ
ルが、あなたのお役にたてる事と思います。ここ東京地区では、たくさ
んの人達が耳ならし（英語の）の為に Eagle810 (a.k.a FEN - Far East
Network)を聞いています。私達は、毎時10-15分に放送されるニュース
の他に、クラシックなロックンロールを聞いています。（勿論、朝夕等
に放送される司令官コーナーも除きます。）
ゴキゲンな番組の半分とローカル情報は、FENのスタジオで（in Yokota
Air Base - Fussa, Tokyo)AFRTSの番組とは別に、独立した形で作られて
います。
また、あなたも知っている様に、基地の人事移動も盛んに行われ、そう
いった人達の為の番組も存在しています。
それは、 Swap Shopと呼ばれ（番組名かどうかわかりません。）1日数回
放送されています。そう単純なフリーマーケットのラジオ版です。
そんな時、信じ難いものを私は聞きました。
"Macintosh PowerBook 520c for $1,200. Nodamaged dots. 24MB memory
on board...call 225-2*** for more information".
（Mac の Powerbook520cを1200ドルで売ります。詳しくは、電話番号225
-2***までどうぞ）
安い、そう思って電話をしましたが、NTT（うんざりする日本のモノホリ
スティックな電話会社）からの「おかけになった番号は現在つかわれて
おりません。」のアナウンスが流れました。正確な番号を、それも数秒
前に聞いたものをダイヤルしたはずだったのに。
そこで、104に横田の番号（代表？）を尋ねて、FENに電話をし、さらに
先ほどの売り主の番号を確認する事にしました。（横田基地の番号は、
81-425-52-2511-原文 国内からは0425-52-2511 です。）
早速、電話をしてみました。
すると、応答システムが女性の声で「横田基地です。コレクトコールは
受け付けません。現在オペレーターが不在です。しばらくお待ち下さい。
プッシュフォンからおかけの場合は、発振音の後に5桁の番号をダイヤル
してください。」とアナウンスがありました。
私は混乱しました。5桁の番号？特別な番号により、特殊な電話に繋がる
のでは・・。答えは簡単でした。
私は、225-2xyzにかけようとしていたのです。そう、末尾の5-2xyzが、
内部の回線番号になっていたのです。
横田内と・・・へ無料で、電話をする方法を教えます。
まず、VHFのハンディー無線装置を手に入れます。これは、140MHz以下の
周波数が送信出来るものです。具体的には、アマチュア用の物で、スタ
ンダードのC168又はそれ以前のものです。
リピーターシステムについて聞いたことがあるでしょう。
横田のチャンネルで送信すれば、リピーターのブースターが貴方からの
弱い電波を強めて、別の周波数でより大きなエリアに再送信するシステ
ムで、貴方は小さな無線機でいい事になります。
貴方のかわいい無線機を、以下のuplink(送信用）と、downlink(受信用）
にセットしてください。。
Uplink: 138.075Mhz / Downlink: 141.525Mhz
(or just enter 141.525Mhz on a memory channel and set shift freq
as -3.45Mhz)
それでは、PTTを押しながら、電話番号の全桁を（市内局番以降だと思い
ます。原文-225-2xyz...not the last five digit!）
繋がります。
これで、アマチュア無線と同じ要領で話しができます。

How to make a phone call to the extension numbers in Yokota Air
Base for free.

This file may be of no practical use for those who live outside
Japan, but I hopeit would be useful if you happen to come and
make a long stay in Tokyo someday.
Here in Tokyo area not a few local people (me too:-) are always
enjoy listeningto Eagle810 (a.k.a FEN - Far East Network).
Some are for training their ears forbrush up their English
listening comprehension, others are just for fun.
Mostly,what we listen to is cool American classic rock'n'roll
except news putting on theair at the first 10 - 15 minutes in
every hour, except Rush Limbaugh's "The waythings ought to be" in
the eteningtime, "Commander's Corner" in the morning,
orwhatsoever.
Almost half of programs for pleasure, local info are produced in
FEN studio (inYokota Air Base - Fussa, Tokyo) independently from
AFRTS sources.
You know, basepersonnel's come and going is frequent so that FEN
has a program for people whohave bunch of unwanted articles for
removal. It calls "Swap Shop", broadcastedseveral times in a day.
To put it simple, it's a fleamarket on the radio. Onoccasion I
heard an incredible offer..."Macintosh PowerBook 520c for $1,200.
Nodamaged dots. 24MB memory on board...call 225-2*** for more
information".
I wasstunned, "Dirt cheap..." I'm sure if I don't make a phone
call I'd regret nothaving called. I grabbed a handset and pushed
the number that I was informed.225-2***...what I heard was
tiresome message from NTT (A crappy monopolistictelephone company
in Japan) machine that we Japanese used to be answered,
"Okakeni nattta bangou wa genzai tsukawarete oriasen (the number
you've dialed isincorrect or invalid at the moment)..."
What?? The number I pushed was exactlywhat I've heard just few
seconds before and I didn't dialed wrongly by jove!...Okay, here
's an another means...just call to 104 and ask the operator the
keynumber of Yokota Air Base, then I will inquire FEN studio an
exact number of theperson who wants to sell damn cool PowerBook...
no one can forestall me, hehehe"The key number of Yokota Air Base
was 81-425-52-2511.
I pushed the numberimmediately, but what I got was a female voice
message from answering systemagain.
"Yokota Air Base. No collect call. If you have touch tone service
dial thelast five digits when you hear the dial tone.
If not, please wait the operator".
At first I was confused. "the last five digits? Does it mean
another specialnumber required to connect extension phone??"
But the answer was so simple. IfI'd like to call 225-2xyz I had
to enter the last 52xyz during the intermittentbeep tone.
Boring? Okay here I'd like to tell you another way to make a
phone call toYokota...and it's absolutely FREE!!
What you have to prepare is, a VHF walkie-talkie.
Make sure it can transmittfrequency less than 140Mhz.
Amateur HAM handheld transceiver such as Standard'sC168 or later
is preferable. Have you ever heard of "Repeater System"?
Yeah ifyou transmit on a certain frequency to Yokota, a booster
in the repearter systemonce receives feeble wave from your walkie
-talkie then emphasize it and transmitagain on anothe frequency
so that people in large area can copy you even yourradio output
is so small. The frequency on your side is called uplink, and
onrepeater's side is downlink. Do I make myself clear??
If so please set up yourpretty walkie-talkie like this:
Uplink: 138.075Mhz / Downlink: 141.525Mhz (or just enter 141.
525Mhz on a memorychannel and set shift freq as -3.45Mhz)
Then, enter the whole number (225-2xyz...not the last five digit!)
while you'repushing PTT!! It surely works!! Then you can talk
with a person you called in away like HAM goes.
(Note: In Japan, frequency ranging from 138Mhz to 142Mhz is
allocated for USmilitaly only...transmitting on frequency
aforementioned is a violation ofJapanese telecommunication law)
